The Story...
"A single sunbeam is enough to drive away many shadows" -Francis of Assisi //
When I started this painting it was -17 Celsius with a substantial coat of snow over everything. It was that same week that something incredible happened. After a long, dark winter, the clouds lifted and we saw the sun for the first time in what seemed like forever. It was that bright moment of hope that I wanted to capture, the first light of a Spring that will soon arrive. Even though everything is still frozen and deep in snow you know that the sun is still up there somewhere and we will eventually see it's warmth. It is the reminder that somewhere under all that snow and ice there is life just waiting to spring up out of the ground.

If you feel like you're in a winter season that has been extra long and dark, take encouragement from the natural seasons God has put in order for us. As Rachael Carson said "there is something infinitely healing in the repeated refrains of nature - the assurance that dawn comes after night and Spring comes after Winter."
