THE STORY...
What to say about this painting that is so near and dear to my heart? Estonia is a place where music is important. Singing together through years of occupation by other nations has helped hold together their cultural identity for many years. In the late 1980's until 1991 they famously gathered together to sing together for their freedom from the Soviet Union in what is now called the Singing Revolution. Every 5th year for the last 150 they have held a special song celebration to come together and sing as one again.

Once, shortly after moving to Estonia, I had the joy of experiencing a little piece of it. The choir was 37,000 voices strong and another 62,000 joined from the audience - it was unlike anything I have ever experienced.

Since that night I have heard no fewer than 5 times from different people how they believe a spiritual revival is coming to the North and how specifically in Estonia they believe that it will involve singing. Only this time instead of singing for their national freedom they will sing out in worship from a place of new found spiritual freedom. I would love to see this day! This painting is what I think that day might look like.
